Happy spring from southern New Mexico where spring means high wind and dust mostly, we’ve had plenty of both. Yuccas are in bloom and cactus are also flowering. I post most of those photos on Instgram so be sure and follow me there. I’ve had performances and speaking gigs in Oklahoma, Houston, Albuquerque, Las Cruces and Arizona. Much travel and I hope good work.

Tomorrow night I play at Leasburg Dam State Park in Radium Springs, NM along the Rio Grande River. It is called Music & the Stars as there is an observatory there and folks bring telescopes to enjoy our night skies. It should be fun. Usually I camp there too though honestly schlepping your gear to a night gig, setting up, playing, striking, packing up then setting up your campsite can be a lot of work. We’ll see. Now if there were hot springs, it would be worth the effort.

June will take me to the Albuquerque Folk Festival and a wonderful starlit concert June 17 at the Black Range Lodge in historic Kingston, NM. Pick a long to a campfire Friday night then my concert Saturday night. Make a weekend of it. It’s peaceful and beautiful there. Check my website calendar for details.

Here is a new music video for my song “Dancing Skin” from 2012’s Strong Medicine album. Strong Medicine was of course funded via Kickstarter, thankfully. The entire album was a chronicle of my caregiving and loss of my late partner, Wayne Crawford, to pancreatic cancer. The lyrics are based on his “Sun Waltz” poem set to melody and music. I’m grateful to have that. It was a very challenging record to write and record as emotions of grief etc. were still fresh. He wrote about dance in many of his poems, the dance of life, of relationships, of sex, of intimacy etc. I hope you enjoy it. It was another collaboration with my dear filmmaker friend David Salcido. The choreography and dancing are wonderfully understated as is my music. I’ve worked with many dancers, choreographers, dance departments and feel so very fortunate and honored each time.
